Join me for Movember

This year, I’m getting a team of WordPress developers together to participate in Movember and to spread the word about men’s health issues.

Movember Rules

I have long been a supporter of Movember, the month dedicated to growing moustaches to highlight men’s health issues.

For those who don’t know, men can be quite stubborn, especially when it comes to their own health. This clandestine topic needs to come out into the open more, and great strides have been made in recent years by campaigns such as Lance Armstrong’s LiveStrong campaign, and Movember.

In Movember, men are encouraged to grow a moustache to promote a conversation about men’s health with your friends. For example, a few facts about men’s health that could be helped by opening up a discussion:

  • A third of cancer deaths are related to physical inactivity and poor diet, which is of course, preventable.
  • 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.
  • Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men
  • Men can get breast cancer
  • 13 million American adult males (~12%) have diabetes
  • Men are 4 times as likely to commit suicide

This year, I am participating “officially” for the first time, and I’ve created a profile and a team on the Movember site, so I’m looking for people to join my team and to raise money for this great cause.

I have created a team for “WordPress Developers” because that’s who I network with most often. So, whether you join my team or not, I encourage you to find out a bit more about Movember and join in, either by growing a moustache, helping to raise funds, donating to my page, spreading the word, or having a conversation with other men in your life.

Movember Rules

No one should be too prudish to talk about ball cancer, or obesity. It’s no joke and I’m not going to tread lightly around the subject any more. If you’re too fat, you know it and you need to do something about it. If you can’t remember the last time you had an annual physical, call your doctor. If your diet consists of more things that are white than anything else, get some color on your plate.

Get involved and get healthy.
